Nine American Kitchen Styles

2022-10-17 16:39:44
There are quite a few American kitchen styles. We can roughly categorize them into the following 9 styles. The nine kitchen styles have their own unique characteristics.

1. Traditional kitchen style
Traditional kitchens are featured with natural colors, luxurious countertops, ornate lighting and raised panel cabinets, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Traditional kitchens are usually painted white, contrasted with dark wood. The cabinets are usually glass-fronted.

2. Contemporary kitchen style
Unlike traditional kitchens which are full of ornate details, contemporary kitchens are decorated with beautiful materials, colors and textures. They have cleaner lines. The biggest feature of contemporary kitchens is that stainless-steel appliances are placed into them and the appliances are usually built into cabinets. The color of contemporary kitchens is not limited.

3. Transitional kitchen style
Transitional kitchens are a good blend of traditional kitchens and contemporary kitchens. The color of transitional kitchens is flexible. This style suits people of different ages.

4. Farmhouse kitchen style
Farmhouse kitchens are highly functional. Wood is the main element of a farmhouse kitchen. Wood floor, cabinets, seating, counters, table, etc. A farmhouse sink, or apron-front sink, is also typical for a farmhouse kitchen.

5. Cottage kitchen style
Cottage kitchens put emphasis on coziness. Raised panels, freestanding furniture, white painting and distressed finish are essential parts of a cottage kitchen.

6. Scandinavian kitchen style
Scandinavian kitchens feature natural finishes, clean lines, and bright lighting. With the less-is-more aesthetics, a Scandinavian kitchen has functional layouts, neutral palettes, wood tones, and occasional eccentric touches.

7. French kitchen style
French-style kitchens bring people a feel of grandeur. They usually have a large island or table, creating generous space. Hanging copper pans, open shelves and so on are typical items in a French-style kitchen.

8. Shaker-style kitchen
Shaker-style kitchens are known for their timeless elegance, chic utilitarian lines and wooden cabinetry. They are minimal with a clean-lined design.

9. The chef’s kitchen style
Chef’s kitchen is an emerging kitchen style. This style pursues efficiency, with a focus on functionality and practicality. Ample space, multiple cooks, sinks, and large dishwasher are essential for a chef’s kitchen.
