Seven-point Checklist for Purchasing a Good Stainless Steel Sink

Stainless steel sinks are not rare items in our daily life. But do you really know how to purchase a proper stainless steel sink? If you don’t, take the seven-point checklist below as a reference and you will get a good stainless steel sink, no matter for sale or for family use.
 
1. Key design questions
Key design questions of a stainless steel sink include whether it’s a single-bowl or double-bowl, under-mount or top-mount. These two questions are common for kitchen sinks and will have a great influence on future use.
 
If you get past these key design questions, it’s time to check the following points.
 
2. Gauge or thickness, depth and size
Gauge, often written “G”, is used to stand for the thickness of a stainless steel sink. The higher the gauge number, the thinner the stainless steel sink. 16G and 18G stainless steel sinks are safe choices. The thicker the stainless steel sink, the better the quality and the higher the price accordingly. However, obsessive thickness will add weight to the sink and thus cause some problems for installation.
 
When checking the size of a stainless steel sink, don’t neglect either inner size or overall size. As for depth, 9-inch and 10-inch are common and proper.
 
3. Handmade or drawn
Stainless steel sinks are classified into handmade sinks and drawn sinks according to different fabrication methods. Handmade stainless steel sinks are usually thicker and more expensive.  
 
4. Corners
Corner shapes matter, too. Square corners, straight sides, and a flat bottom offer more volume, but small round corners allow for easy cleaning and good drainage.
 
5. Soundproofing pads
Soundproofing pads are essential for stainless steel sinks. Otherwise, the sinks will sound like drums when running water flows into them.
 
6. Drain placement
Drain placement of different stainless steel sinks may differ. It can be in the center or off-center.  
 
7. Surface finish
Surface finish influences the appearance of stainless steel sinks. Satin finish, matte finish or nano titanium finish? You may choose one based on your preference. Satin finish is easier to clean, and more durable.
