Surface Finishes of Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink
As we all know, stainless steel sinks are widely used in kitchens. This is because stainless steel sinks perform well in resisting against rust and friction in addition to their pretty metal appearance and gentle touch. Whereas, these advantages of stainless steel sinks are inseparable from their surface finishes to a large extent.
Now, let’s get to learn the following five surface finishes and their upsides and downsides.
1. Matte surface finish
Matte surface is a kind of surface finish similar to electroplating, which is conducted with chemical electrolyte. Among the various surface finishes, this is of simple craftsmanship, relatively low technicality and lower production cost. Therefore, sinks with matte surface finishes are relatively cheap.
The biggest problem with this kind of surface finish is that it is easy to scratch. Even worse, the coating may fall off.
2. Frosted surface finish
The frosted surface finish is made by smashing evenly small particles onto the surface of a stainless steel sink and forming tiny grooves which are invisible.
This kind of finish increases the hardness and improves its scratch resistance of the sink to some extent. Sinks that are too thin are not suitable for frosted surface finish.
3. Wire drawing surface finish
Wire drawing finish is done by repeatedly drawing on the surface to form a variety of wire drawings. Its surface is extremely smooth. But this kind of finish is very demanding for the thickness of the surface.
4. Pressed or embossed surface finish
Pressed surface finish is done by pressing regular patterns on the surface of sinks. Sinks of this kind of finish look good, but after a long-term use, lampblack will accumulate around the pattern, which is difficult to clean.
5. Mirror polishing surface finish
Mirror polishing is to polish the surface of a sink repeatedly to make its surface look like a mirror. This kind of treatment is not applicable to ordinary families, and it is easy to form scratches during use.
